Michigan Shows.....
Hey everybody, been a little while....Just wanted to give a quick update.
I'm in Michigan for the rest of this
week, catching up with family and friends and playing two shows. The first is tomorrow July 9th at Howe Memorial
Ampetheater in Eaton Rapids, MI. The show starts at 7:30pm and I'll be backed by an all star band from right here in Michigan.
You won't want to miss it if you're in the area. The second show will be at Dusty's Cellar in Okemos, MI on July
11th at 6:30pm. I'll be joined by my old friend Drew Howard. Drew will also be part of the Eaton Rapids show and is the driving
force behind my 2008 release "River of Life".
Good Lord willin' and the Crick don't rise, I hope to see
you there....

Way Back Home Update
Ok! My intentions were good for the weekly updates but the truth of the
matter is, I could use a staff! :) Crazy how much time is involved in building a presence in the music industry when you go
it the indie route. That being the case, I will only commit to updating here as much as humanly possible. I know I've missed
some really cool happenings but here I will try and some most of them up. 'Way Back Home' is currently sitting
at #30 on Cashbox Magizine's Americana Top 40 Albums of the Week. We hit #30 a few weeks back on the AMA chart, We're #21 on the Far Chart this month after debuting last month at #12, #11 this month overseas on the EuroAmericana Chart and have consistently been jumping around the Top 40 somewhere on the Roots Music Report. About all I can say about all that is that I feel so blessed to be making music that people are relating to and enjoying
all over the world..... Thanks so much to all the fans and radio stations that have supported me over the last 2 records.
It means the world to me! I'll try and keep you updated better in the future....Thanks again Y'all!

Week #2
Well week two and I'm already late! It has been crazy...The show with Junior Brown last week was a real treat. Gruene
Hall is such a great room! Junior, of course, put on one heck of a show. This week brought "Way Back Home"
to #38 on the AMA's top 40 list. Woo Hoo!!! I'd been hoping for that day for quite some time...The rest is icing on
the cake. Alright, at this point it's probably best to go back to the start. "Facebook Song" was
the very first song we cut as a band. Actually, the first time we came together as a band. Jordan had been playing
with me for some time with my Bluegrass rig I'd been playing with since I first got to Texas. I knew I wanted to head
in a slightly new direction and had just met Steve Sarber and Andy Carrell through the internet. Steve had
just arrived from Boston and was staying in our travel trailer for a few days. Oh the talks we've had... Steve's been
all around the world playing his guitar and was ready to see what Austin was all about. My spiritual bro.
Andy had been in Austin for a bit. We met through Myspace, via Craigslist and once we connected realized our huge
CD collections almost matched disc for disc. Must be the midwest connection. Andy is originally from Indianapolis.
The session came together just after Easter, 2009. I had just written Facebook Song after recently getting
on the FB bandwagon. I was working on an entirely different idea and the tune just started coming. The whole thing
was so funny yet amazing to me. Like it or not, FB has changed the world! We were living at the time in a two
story house we were renting. Strangely enough, it's design was perfect for making a record. High, sloped cathedral
ceilings that went to a loft on the second floor.(Kids bedrooms) There was tile throughout and the acoustics
were perfect. The control room was assembled in an attached sun porch with glass sliders between it and the living
room where the drums and bass were located. Steve and I were set up in th sun porch with Steve's amp isolated in the master bedroom. We got mic levels, I played them the tune and we started tracking. We tracked a handful of takes
but ultimately wound up using I believe the second pass. I knew this was the band!

"A.J. Downing reminds me of a modern day Hank
or Woody, writing and singing those soulful songs, not so much becausehe wants to, but because he has to . . . because it
is his mission in life. When you hear that sincerity in his voice, you know immediately that he is the real deal." Kent Finlay Cheatham Street Warehouse
